The Benefits of Being Multilingual—with Thouria Benferhat - EP237

What are the benefits of being multilingual?

If you ask Thouria Benferhat, learning a language opens you up to the culture and allows you to embrace a whole new group of people.

And anytime you greet someone in their own language, they open up to you in a new way.

Thouria is a polyglot language teacher, translator and writer who has served Arabic, French, English and Spanish language learners of all ages since the 1970s.

She taught Arabic for the United Nations Language Program at its New York Headquarters for 36 years. And today, she shares information about languages in her books, blog, podcast and YouTube channel.

On this episode of Wickedly Smart Women, Thouria joins Anjel to explain how her female teachers and professors inspired her to pursue a career in education.

Thouria describes her experiences growing up in Arabic culture, sharing her journey to pursuing a Master’s in the US and how she landed a job teaching language at the UN.
